In the capital alone there are over 150 centers of foreign language courses or teaching specific subjects, while in Durrës, with dozens of such. This expansion of knowledge transfer businesses points to the growing demands of separate learning from educational institutions. The first place in the hierarchy is held by the teaching of the German language, the trend of which is supported by the requirements for education or employment in Germany.
The desire to attend university or do a master's degree in Germany goes beyond attending a German course. There are many young Albanians who want to get a university education outside Albania, just as the desire for employment abroad has been growing. Italian universities are the main destination for studies and this is shown by the fact that they constitute one of the largest communities of foreign students in Italy. The geographical proximity and ease of the Italian language are thought to be two of the key factors for this solution.
Although not as many as in Italy, a considerable number of young Albanians have been selected by the auditors of German universities. But not just for study. Germany has become the most attractive place for young people or other age groups to work. Germany is an open country as an emigration destination and has an interest in the migration of skilled labor, students and scientists from all over the world.
Why german language?
Germany due to the quality of education and relatively low tuition fees compared to other western countries, remains attractive to young Albanians as a country where they can study. For different groups of professions such as doctors, nurses, engineers, computer scientists, etc., Germany offers attractive employment opportunities. Knowledge of the German language is required as a condition in this regard. These reasons have prompted you to increase the demand for learning German. The trend shows a 30% increase every year.
A student must have good German language skills to study at a university in Germany. Foreign applicants, in this case Albanians, must undergo a language test before enrolling in a school program. The most widely accepted tests are TestDaF and DSH. The TestDaF test can also be done in the countries where the students come from, which is organized by the licensed German institutes, while the DSH test only in Germany by the institutions of the respective universities.
German language as a profession
According to the data provided by the Department of German Language, at the University of Tirana, in the first cycle of bachelor studies, the quota includes 490 students for the German language, while in the second cycle of master studies over 60 such. For more than two decades at the Department of German at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the number of students choosing this field of study has been increasing.
The trend over the years, according to professors at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, has been towards English and Italian. Quotas were increased three years ago, taking into account the growing demand for German-language applications. Simply put, German becomes more common in high schools, whether public or private; language centers have spread rapidly, or young people intend to work in Germany as well. All of these reasons have made German a good choice as a profession.
